What are the characteristics of aluminum alloy profiles?

Jan 07,2022 / News, Industry News / Author: ShengKui

The application field of aluminum profile is becoming more and more extensive, because it has some characteristics that other metals do not have. The hardness of pure aluminum is increased by adding a small amount of metal elements to form aluminum alloy, and aluminum profile is aluminum alloy Profile.

Let's analyze the characteristics of aluminum profiles:

Low density
The density of aluminum alloy is only 2.7g/cm3, which is about one-third of the density of copper and steel, so it is a light metal and can reach a certain degree of hardness. Although it is not as hard as steel, it can definitely meet general load-bearing requirements.

Corrosion resistance
When the surface of the aluminum profile is in contact with the air, it will undergo an oxidation reaction to form a transparent and hard oxide film. This oxide film blocks the contact between the air and the aluminum substrate, thereby playing a role in corrosion resistance. The anodized aluminum profile (a dense and uniform oxide film is artificially formed by energizing the two poles), its corrosion resistance is stronger, the color is more uniform and more beautiful.

Conductivity
Aluminum profile is often selected because of its excellent electrical conductivity. On the basis of equal weight, the electrical conductivity of aluminum is nearly twice that of copper. However, the conductivity of the aluminum profile after anodization will be greatly reduced.

Thermal conductivity
The thermal conductivity of aluminum alloy is about 50-60% of copper, which is beneficial to the manufacture of heat exchangers, evaporators, heating appliances, cooking utensils, and automobile cylinder heads and radiators.

Non-ferromagnetic
Aluminum profiles are non-ferromagnetic, which is an important feature for the electrical and electronic industries.

Non-flammability
Aluminum profiles are not spontaneously combustible, which is important for applications involving handling or contact with flammable and explosive materials.

Machinability
The machinability of aluminum profiles is excellent. In various deformed aluminum alloys and cast aluminum alloys, and in various states after these alloys are produced, the machinability characteristics of aluminum alloys vary considerably, which requires Special machine tools or technology.

Formability
The specific tensile strength, yield strength, ductility and corresponding work hardening rate dominate the change in allowable deformation.

Recyclability
Aluminum has extremely high recyclability, and the characteristics of recycled aluminum are almost indistinguishable from primary aluminum. This has made outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development.
